Woo hoo! My box is on its way! Too bad like as with the past few months the box looks more useful than its contents. I was feeling like I was wasting my husband's money getting more and more irrelevant samples from them the last few months, then, when I logged in to put an end to this lack of consumer insight (clearly after months they really don't "get', for example, that I am in no way interested in hair samples for fine hair, or simply to that point, that I am a ** woman) I am even more disgusted to realize how hard, read impossible, they've made it for us to edit, change and moreover cancel a subscription! I work in marketing and handle several consumer loyalty programs. This is not OK!
Where are the settings that allow me to update or cancel/ Where are the auto-renew details? Where is a live chat or option to speak to someone? Are you guys operating in this century??? I am all for women entrepreneurs and have supported and elevated a few in my day but you have lost your north star and are missing the mark. How are they not being audited in some way?

I have joined Birchbox as a Christmas gift for the year. In February my credit card was breached so I had to change the number. It has been impossible reaching someone to notify them of this information. I am very frustrated and disappointed, because I have tried countless times to email, since they do not have a phone number. No one has contacted me back. So now my niece will lose her Christmas gift.

I joined Birchbox because of all the choices they offer each month: one of FOUR curated boxes where you can see everything before you choose it OR one of THREE samples with the other items chosen for you based on your profile answers OR all surprises chosen for you based on your profile answers OR one full-sized product (that you can see ahead of time) OR points to use toward anything you want in their shop.
I bought a yearlong subscription because it's a lower price per box and because I thought you'd get some perks, like getting to choose a little before the others, as the other subscription boxes offer. However, when it's my turn to pick, the best items are always already marked SOLD OUT. They don't have anywhere near enough to go around of the best options.
In other words, you won't actually be getting all those choices they promised and sometimes, very, very few of the choices. They also just ignore you when you complain. I sent an email last Wednesday. It's now Monday and no reply. Unless, of course, you count the generic "survey" they sent me a couple of days ago. I wouldn't doubt if they marked that as answering my message, though of course, it did not.
Also, though with the other subscription boxes, you are considered a top level member and get first pick, I discovered Birchbox doesn't work like that. Instead, only customers who have spent $300 with them in that calendar year get to be top level members. Yearly subscribers are treated the same as monthly subscribers (though you do get a couple of bucks off each monthly box when you sign up for a year).
Furthermore, that's $300 in a CALENDAR year. I bought my yearlong subscription in November for about $150. But a couple of months later, since it was a new "calendar" year, that no longer counted towards the $300 needed to become a top level member and get first pick of the options. In short, Birchbox doesn't deliver what they advertise and they ignore complaints.
I do like paying less and getting mostly "deluxe sample" sized products. That way, I can try a lot of new things without the waste of full-sized products that I might not like. However, these are not products I'd likely ever purchase the full size of later, even if I did like them. That's because they are mostly little-known brands with undeserved high price tags. Who wants to pay $30 for a mascara by an unknown company? That's the kind of stuff that's offered in their shop, to work towards your $300.
As far as them not bothering to get nearly enough stock to go around on the choices, they could always even offer a secondary option like offer a substitute box when an option box runs out, so members could at least have the same number of things to pick from. Or they could vary when people get to pick (you have to wait until they decide it's your turn). For example, those who picked first one month, pick last the next month. Or, they could at least offer some kind of perk to make up for it when they really screw up. Last month, ALL FOUR "curated" boxes were gone when I got to choose. But when I brought my very legitimate complaint to their attention, I was simply ignored. For these reasons, I give Birchbox "one star." They basically get your money, then flip you the bird.

First, like others mentioned, if you forget to cancel it automatically renews and you cannot get out of another year. My main complaint is they offer choices each month, EXCEPT you can never get them. I received an email this morning at 10 that this month is available to choose and at 12:15 when I tried to select one they are all sold out so you get what you get. Very unhappy with the company.

Ordered the Grooming Globetrotter kit for an upcoming trip abroad. When I received the package, it was the "defined coils kit". As a person with very little hair this was clearly the wrong package. Over the following 3 weeks around 5 emails have been sent through their stated emails to get this fixed. No one has since responded; essentially they took my money and gave me whatever they had lying around and no one cares enough to fix this.

I've been a Birchbox customer since 2016. I realized over time all my samples were building up and I just wasn't using them. So I decided that I wanted to cancel. I go online and they say you'll receive an email notifying you of auto-renewal which I did, but I am unable to unsubscribe under account settings as the instructions in the email and in their online FAQs suggest.
I submit my first request to cancel in early December 2019 to the support email (since they have no phone service). No one ever followed up with me so I've tried 3+ more times, most recently today. The level of service is unacceptable. Companies like this give subscription services a bad name. Completely unethical. I don't care you're receiving a higher number of inquiries. It shouldn't take over a MONTH to get a response. Hire more people or provide a better service/product. My auto-renewal happens on Feb 1. Since I haven't heard a response I've removed my credit card from my profile so I will not get charged. If anything does show up on my bank statement I'm marking them as a fraudulent charge.

My subscription was on auto-renew, so even after more than 2 years of boxes and 2 additional gift subscriptions purchased, I was unable to cancel when I wanted to and now have to wait 7 months. It gets to the point where you have enough samples and are really just drowning in them. I think the sample sizes are just too small to really show what the products can do in most cases (moisturizers, shampoo, etc.). And they send a mascara in every single box. I won't need to buy that for a long time. Choose Ipsy or another service where you have flexibility to cancel with no questions asked instead for the same price as Birch Box's subscription price.

I joined Birchbox in June 2019, year contract for $11.99/month. Things were mostly good. At the end of December, the customization opened up. Within an hour, all options were out of stock. I notified customer service, who informed me there was a technical error with the app. This never was resolved. My card wasn't processed on the 1st of January, which was fine by me because I was completely unimpressed with the product being offered. Today (January 15th, 2020) my card has been charged and yet nothing has been shipped. Even the app won't tell me what's in the box. On top of that, the price increased by $2. That isn't the end of the world, but I was on a year contract for $11.99/month. This isn't what I signed up for and I will battle customer service to terminate the contract.

I received a Birchbox as an early Christmas present (purchased from Walgreens). Loved the box so I subscribed (grooming box for my husband as a Christmas present). Birchbox had a promo at the time buy one get one. I was charged that day. In the same month I was charged again. I never received the grooming boxes. After a couple I finally got a response from Birchbox. They said I would receive a replacement box (expecting 2 because of the promo). I did receive an opened box but only one on January 13th. Not 2 as promised with promo. Great concept but executed very poorly.

The box that I got this month (subscribed for four months) was missing a product and the other four samples were so tiny that I could not read the label to tell what the product was. I promptly canceled. Cut my losses and got the hell out.

I WAS a customer of Birchbox for almost 5y. Last year I was notified that they will increase their prices for charging and based on my profile my charge went up from 10$ to 13$. So far - ok, I agreed to continue my subscription, because I liked the products they are sending me. But this January all of a sudden I see that I was charged 14,30$ for my January box and now you will think "ok, 1,4$ ain't a big deal", and yes you are right, but what I am angry about is the fact that emailed them 7 times asking why the upcharge is for, I just want to know and to get some answer. Why was I not notified, and NO ONE has responded me. Not to mention the fact that my first 3 emails bounced back- because of I guess no more exciting email addresses.
How many email addresses have you changed Birchbox? Why are you not contacting your clients/customers when they have tried to contact you? I was so frustrated and of course I cancelled my subscription. Giving one star only because the products. Long story short the way this whole situation is going looks like it's just another SCAM!

I signed up this fall and they had one offer for a free hair straightener and $8 the first box! I have never seen samples as small as theirs!! The straightener never arrive and when I inquire, their excuse was.... You got $8 for the first box!!! You can't cancel tele subscription either and when you ask questions they are rude and cocky!! The empty box is worth more than the samples!!!! I try Allure and my daughter Ipsy!!! What a difference!!!! Can't wait for the year to be over!!! I called them and ask to be on a DO NOT RENEW status! We shall see!!! Ipsy so far is the best I tried. Allure follows closely!!! Like with everything in life.... There is the real thing and the fake!! They don't deserve one star.

I subscribed to Birchbox less than a year ago... Immediately I noticed I was getting a lot of useless stuff. Tiny samples of hair products that are not large enough even for a single test when you have a lot of hair. Not enough makeup samples, and way too many fragrances. But the worst thing is their box selection process. They send you an email when you are able to select a box and even if you go right in, everything is out of stock so you end up with a crappy selection of products that they THINK are a match with your beauty profile. This is a waste of $15 dollars a month and even worst waste of time as customer service is terrible. Why would you ask me to text you if you do not reply? On top of it all, I cannot cancel because their website is so full of bugs that it stays in limbo with no success message when you try to cancel. Save yourself the money and time and subscribe to something else.

Birchbox had a Black Friday sale for a one year subscription and was charged for the year. Now that the year is up, they charged me again. I contacted customer service (I sent two emails and never heard back, so then I texted a number) and they finally got back to me claiming they sent an "opt out email" (which I never received). If I didn't reply to that email to opt out, they went ahead and charged my credit card and enrolled me for another ONE YEAR subscription. HOWEVER, they won't allow you to cancel even though you're being charged monthly. How does any of that make sense?! Not only do they give a terrible box (I have more dry shampoos than I can count), but they also have terrible customer service. To be on the safe side, I would just recommend not going with them at all.

I have subscriptions to two different companies. One is easy to join and end, the other is Birchbox. It's very difficult to end your subscription with Birchbox, especially if you agreed to a year subscription. The website says to select non-renew in your account settings, however, there is no such button or icon. Wherever you try to find answers, it sends you back to the same advice. Beware before you begin! If you have trouble with an auto-renew, contact your credit card company. Most times they can cancel or block that auto-renew. Also, the sizes of the Birchbox products are much smaller than other companies, so it's really not worth the hassle from the beginning.

I ordered 6-months prepaid in full package and I found out that meant 6 months of commitment for life... Information on website is very hard to find and subscription 'type' is NOT available. Financial concerns prompted me to contact them and they will cancel after another 3 months of charging my card which they are holding hostage. I have purchased this for myself before, and gifts for my daughter in law and step daughters, but never again. Done.

I tried to cancel subscription and it was impossible. Today Dec 5 I got an email from Birchbox finally after 3 months of requesting a subscription cancellation that they confirmed the cancellation. THEN hours later I got a reminder my December order is on its way. IT BETTER NOT BE CHARGED to me!

I returned a purchase and the skin tone was too dark. I returned it within the time frame allowed. I sent an email to ask when I would get the credit applied to my account. Email response 'we received your return on Oct 20. The credit will take 10 days to appear in my account'. It's now Dec. 3rd and still no credit appearing & no response to my 2nd email. Really?? Are they in financial trouble?

Awful, you get a box of nothing for $13. The biggest mistake I did was to get a one year subscription, it only cost $60 or $70 for their discount. I used to get mascara, lipsticks, eyeshadows, but then it changed to dry hair shampoo in every box, low quality skin oil, and stinky perfume samples. Now, am being charged month to month $13. Their website says click on account settings, and select cancel subscription, however, that option doesn't exist on their website or app. Thinking they removed it to make it difficult to cancel. If you try to delete credit card number, it informs you another credit card must be entered to delete the prior one. There were never any emails to say my account would be charged. It does say long term subscriptions cannot be cancelled, but now it's month to month, and I still can't. Sent an email to cancel. Let's see how that works out.

This company has the WORST customer service. They don't respond in a timely manner. They don't try to help you out. They won't let you cancel. They just give their "script" and won't be helpful. They don't care the reason just NO!!! They are truly the worst company. All the other subscription companies will allow you to cancel or put them on hold. This company just goes back and forth with their BS. A friend of mine tried to cancel too and put her through a hassle as well.

When I first signed up for Birchbox there was an option online to opt out of auto-renewal. I immediately opted out so I could decide after a year if I liked the service. Getting so many samples just ended up collecting and not getting used so I was NOT going to renew. Lo and behold I started getting charged again once my year was up. Now I'm being told I didn't opt out. They no longer let you out of auto renewal online. You have to contact them, but that is different from when I first signed up. I am not happy at all!!! ABSOLUTELY DO NOT NOT NOT NOT SUBSCRIBE TO BIRCHBOX OR YOU WILL CONTINUE TO GET STUFF YOU DON'T EVEN LIKE!!!

This is was my second and last time getting anything from Birchbox. I purchased the 2-for-1 box deal in late September/early October, and was happy to get those in short order. I decided to re-up for October because I loved the cute Halloween box, and the curated sample selection. They're supposed to ship on the 10th every month, and I just received my box today.
I received a generic box with none of the selections I made for October, and almost a full month late. I did not get what I paid for, and I did not get it even close to when it was promised-- I have all but 2 of the items I received already, and none of what I already have are things I like. This was a waste of my time AND my money. Do not set expectations you cannot live up to, Birchbox.

3 years ago I subscribed. Excited to get mail that wasn't a bill every month. The quality of the samples over the years has gone down. Frequently I'm given the same samples several times per year. However my biggest issue is the auto renewal process and the policy. I was never given written notification that I was coming up in renewal. The company just renews you to 12 months! I found out on my credit card statement that it auto renewed. Since there is no way off an I phone on the account to cancel I have to text customer service as Google listed as a way to reach them. Customer service refused to cancel my subscription and insists I am obligated to 10 more months of this horrible product! That's another $130 wasted.

I was disappointed and hurt to see my latest box. It may have been unintentional but please do consider the personal and religious sensitivities while sending the products. In their zeal to push health Gummies, they forgot to check that Gelatin used was beef based Gelatin. More than 40% world population is vegetarian. There was no mention or caution note that this contains beef based products.

The first box has an operational delay in shipping so don't think you will have time to cancel before getting the second one. That means you will be buying one at full price. Probably intentional given the intro promo. Very unhappy and disgusted. Chirpy and irrelevant customer service when I complained about for example getting nipple balm as one example. You can also use it on your lips and hydrating eyebrows or cuticles -- I heard, from Jamie. Ridiculous.

Get ** Done With This Limited Edition Bag of Desk Essentials. This is the subject line from an email I received from Birchbox August 7, 2019. I wrote an email of complaint to them and received a dismissive reply that it was their copy department's 'attempt at a playful emoji'. Does anyone out there consider this as 'playful' business correspondence? After being a Birchbox customer for years, I am finished with this rude, vulgar site which obviously doesn't mind offending me.

Birchbox overcharged me for my monthly subscription and charged me additional shipping, causing an overdraft at my bank. While they were "terribly sorry" Birchbox took absolutely no responsibility for their error. I had to cancel my subscription in order to get a refund for the product overcharge and additional shipping charge (which they refunded) and the bank fee (which they did not.) Birchbox expects its customers to eat the financial repercussions of its staff errors. Just another greedy company out to a screw its subscribers out of every last dollar. Sad.

So very disappointed with my June Birchbox! It's been hit or miss for the past few months - but usually there is something redeeming in there to keep me from cancelling... But that doesn't mean I have been happy. First there is the mystery of - the timing of shipping! They make sure to charge my card on the first day of each month but the box doesn't arrive for at least 2 weeks (sometimes 3)... Not sure what kind of shipping they are using - but it's not good. I have almost cancelled my subscription just for this reason alone.
But this last box -- was PITIFUL! Not one thing in there of interest.... And if I get another dry shampoo product I think I might scream! Such a waste of plastic and packaging only to have most of these products end up in the recycle bin -- but I have to go to the trouble of emptying them down the sink first. I will give it one more month - but can tell things have changed with this company... There are too many other competitors with subscription boxes out there to be taken for granted by Birchbox and I do feel ignored and taken for granted. It used to be a great surprise I looked forward to when I saw my box appear every month. Now it's just an exercise in disappointment and recycling.

I'm disappointed how low the quality of customer service, app, and the website and email notification has gone down. I bought a year subscription and I only have 3 more left but how fast it's gotten bad. Why is there a 10 day estimate for when my subscription should arrive. I'm having a hard time looking at the website to see my boxes. When the website finishes loading it goes blank. The app doesn't allow me to see my boxes. Everything is such a disappoint that I'm glad I'm cancelling after just a year. Not worth it anymore. Even with the new upgrade to pay $13 no don't do it. It used to be 11.
